Novel by Augusta Jane Evans Wilson, in her day one the most popular writers in the United Sates and was the “first woman to make $100,000 dollars from her writing”1. Her support of the confederacy in the American Civil War has however affected her legacy. Red cloth heavily decorated with blue and yellow flowers and a gilt banner with titles in relief surrounded by a decorative black border of flowers. Bevelled edges to boards.
