Notes Leather is scuffed with tiny areas of surface loos to the spine of volume I. Volume II has more pronounced surface loss to one compartment on the spine. Joints are worn but sound. Leather is a little scuffed to corners One corner to volume II is slightly bumped. 1947 gift not in green ink to volume I. Binding is sound. Very clean.

Hardback. Two volumes complete. First edition. Half bound in dark blue leather with marbled papers to boards, and with maroon labels, raised bands, gilt decorations and gilt titles to spine including ‘First edition, 1927’ in gilt to the tail end of each spine. Volume I: 339pp., black and white frontis photograph of Conrad and 11 further plates. Volume II: 376pp., black and white frontis photograph of Conrad in later life and 5 further plates. Substantial biography with large selection of Conrad's letters by Jean-Aubry.
