Description
Stapled pamphlet with tasselled cord. Poem and prayers passed down through the Austen family after they were preserved by her sister Cassandra. Godmersham Park was inherited by Jane’s brother Edward and she was a regular visitor in the first decade of the nineteenth century. The house is thought to be the model for Mansfield Park and the association between Jane Austen and Godmersham is such that Godmersham Park is featured alongside the portrait of Jane Austen on the British ten pound note. Charmingly illustrated with drawings throughout by John Ward. Also includes introduction and a biographical note on the illustrator John Ward who has been elected to the Royal Academy and was commissioned for the illustrations to the programme for the Queen Mother’s 100th birthday celebrations.
