Description
Hardback. First edition. Twelve chapters, one for each month of the year. Adrian Bell was part of the many back to the land writers who, from middle-class or upper-class backgrounds, withdrew form the rat-race or societies whorl and began to farm, recounting their exploits in book or periodical form. Bell was from a journalistic family (his father was the editor of The Observer and his son Martin was later a BBC war correspondent) and was the first compiler of The Times crossword.
