Hardback. Young adult fiction for Victorian teens. Very attractive binding in brown cloth with a peacocks feather and other decorations in grey and black. Bevelled edges to the boards. Extravagant number of illustrations beginning with the black and white frontis. and 10 further plates plus two illustrations to each chapter head and further within text illustrations throughout. The author was born Louisa Madeline Carless 1852–1937 and married to the editor of Cassell’s magazine, Rev Henry George Bonavia Hunt.
