Hardback. xiv,451pp. Autobiography and letters of Margaret Oliphant (1828-1897) Frontis portrait from a drawing by Janet Mary Oliphant. One further plate showing a photograph of Margaret Oliphant with two of her sons and her nephew. The autobiography section, written in a lively style ends at p.150 meaning the bulk of the book is Margaret Oliphant’s letters. Includes a detailed list of Mrs Oliphant’s published works and a dated list of her contributions to Blackwood’s magazine. Arranged and edited by Mrs Harry Coghill who was born Annie Louisa Walker. She was a cousin of Margaret Oliphant and her companion/secretary/housekeeper as well as a writer in her own right. Bound in blue cloth with gilt titles to the spine and stamped with a gilt illustration of dragon to the front with a banner with the word Margaret. Margaret Oliphant was married to her cousin the stained glass designer Francis Wilson Oliphant.
