Description
Hardback. Novel set in the fictional Caribbean island of Santa Marta. Written in the 1950s it is not just a story of an interracial romance, it is also story about the tensions between plantation owners and workers, and between government house and trades unionists and as such has attitudes on race and class to be expected of the era. It was filmed, quite daringly at the time because of teh interracial romance elements, in 1957. the film stared James Mason, Harry Belafonte, Joan Fontaine, Joan Collins and Harry Belfonte had a huge hit with the theme tune of the same name. 552pp. Dust jacket with a wrap-around illustration by Val Biro.
