Hardback. Limited edition of this attractively produced Greek text with translation. Printed on Batchelor’s hand-made paper by Enschedé of the Netherlands, with type-designer Jan van Krimpen’s Antigone Greek. Antigone was produced by van Krimpen just two years earlier in 12 point for the works of Sappho, Sappho Revocata (Peter Davies, 1928), and used here for the first time in 16 point. For the English text Jan van Krimpen’s Lutetia (the Roman name for Paris) is used. Numbered 90 out of limited edition of 400 copies for sale. Bevelled edges to the boards. Top edge gilt, other edges uncut. Translator, John Maxwell Edmonds, is best know for his war epigrams which were the source for “When you go home, tell them of us and say/ For your tomorrow, we gave our today,” among others.
