Notes Leather is slightly scuffed with some tiny areas of surface loss some wear to the corner tips and the spine ends. The marbled paper is slightly surface scuffed and peeling slightly to the very edges. Binding is sound. The volumes are clean. There is some age toning spots and marks to the prelims and occasionally to the margins.

Hardback. 152+152pp. Rev William Carus Wilson vicar of Rector of Whittington, Rector of Tunstall, Lancashire and chaplain to HRH the Duke of Sussex was a prolific writer for his two periodicals the The Friendly Visitor and The Children's Friend. Tunstall was the parish church which was attended by the clergymen’s daughters of the school of Cowan Bridge including the oldest four Brontë sisters: Maria, Elizabeth, Charlotte and Emily. The church is famously described in Jane Eyre as Brocklebridge Church and Rev Carus Wilson features in Jane Eyre as Mr Brockleurst. Half bound in maroon leather with marbled papers to the side and marbled endpapers. Horizontal bands of gilt to the spine. Gilt title to the spine. Ruled in gilt to edges of the leather.
