Original calf to boards has double gilt border with tiny floral device to corners is worn to edges, with two corner flowers missing to front board and edges wear to panels. Central panels are fairly clean but slightly grubby to edges and calf re-backed spine is darkened possibly in an attempt to age match. Binding is sound. Text is clean. |

Hardback. One volume edition. viii, 584 pp. Full calf with Rugby School device to front, significantly repaired: re-backed, original red label reused. The first prelim has contemporary inscription: Charles Smyth Morris (1848-1912, of Llansteffan, Carmarthanshire) from the masters of Rugby School Midsummer 1863. Laid in is a detached label with arms etc of Edward Hamlin Abadam né Adams 1809–1875 of Middleton Hall, Camarthanshire, father of the suffragist Alice Abadam and uncle of novelist Vernon Lee (Violet Paget) and poet Eugene Lee-Hamilton. Ribbon bookmark. Engraved frontis, title page and further plates.
