Notes Blue cloth has gilt titles to spine and gilt device with a sailing ship to the front. cloth is faded to spine. Boards are lightly bumped. soem slight surface suffing. Foxed to title page and other prelims but the tipped in frontis is unaffected. Scattered foxing to margins within the text. Else very clean and neat.

Tipped in plates, pictorial endpapers and woodblock illustrations throughout all by Laurence Irving, artist, book illustrator and set designer. Irving was the grandson of the great actor Sir Henry Irving. As a set designer he worked with Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford and Charlie Chaplin.
