The story of Caroline Norton who treatment at the hands of her husband that eventually left the poet and society beauty destitute, deprived access to her children and of the means of making any income lead to a 30 year campaign in which she helped shape the Infant Custody Act (1839), the Matrimonial Causes (Divorce) Act (1857) and the Married Women’s Property Act (1870).
