Hardback. First edition, two volumes bound in one, half leather binding. viii,384pp.+v,360pp. Lavishly illustrated by Phiz with nearly 50 pictures. Black and white frontis and vignette to title page and 24 plates (vol I) and 22 further plates (vol II). Red leather is spine and corners with gilt titles to spine on black label slightly faded, gilt banding and decorations to spine, gilt borders to edge of leather corners, marbled papers to boards. Marbled page edges. Marbled endpapers.
