Inside some foxing on endpapers and frontis plate in vol.1. Small, neat hand-written number sticker on second blank page each volume. Slight water mark head of frontis in volume I and small inscription. Else pages generally clean and tight. An attractive set. |

Hardback. New edition in ten volumes but lacks volume 10. Quarter bound in calf leather. Engraved frontispiece to both volume I and II. Raised bands and gilt titles to spine with gilt decorations to most compartments with leather title labels to the remaining. Marbled boards, edges and endpapers. William Roscoe’s life of the poet is substantial being the entirety of volume one and includes a fold-out facsimile of a letter by Pope showing how much he enjoyed his gardens at Twickenham. Volume nine is letters including letters to and from Lady Mary Wortley Montague.
