| Notes | Leather is a little rubbed and darkened but is sound, though with a very slight lean. Previous owner’s gift note to the endpaper and a very few names filled in. Faint water mark to edges of last, mainly blank, pages. Suggestion of red to the margins presumed ink transfer from the binding process. First gathering is slightly shaken but binding remains sound. A charming miniature book. |
Description
Charming antique miniature birthday book with very pretty hall marked silver panel with a raised design of forget-me-nots. The birthday book has the usual the diary format with space for the addition of names but also contains quotations from Shakespeare, Wordsworth, Tennyson, Byron, Burns etc. The leather binding is decorated in gilt to the spine. Gilt to all edges. Text in black and red. This tiny volume measures just 55 by 45mm (2¼ by 1¾ inches). Hallmarked as solid sterling silver, inspected in Birmingham and with maker’s mark of Sydney & Co. of Powell Street, Birmingham.
